The Cheka-OGPU and Rucriminal.info have uncovered new details about the final years of Umar Dzhabrailov's life. He rented an apartment from a canning magnate. Umar had previously complained of financial problems, loneliness, and being "tired of himself." But in February, his business "took off," and in the spring, he expected profits from a new project.
He settled in the ill-fated apartment on Tverskaya Street in the early 2020s. He found the apartment through a realtor, who offered the new tenant to the owner as an elderly and wealthy tenant. The lease was formally executed.
The apartment belongs to Elena Eliseeva, the wife of entrepreneur Nikolai Eliseev, a canning magnate who owns large meat processing plants. Dzhabrailov's monthly rent was 385,000 rubles. Despite the problems, the former senator almost always paid his rent on time.
A couple of years ago, Umar Dzhabrailov complained that his apartment was too expensive and even considered moving out of the residential complex on Tverskaya Street, but instead stayed. He said his business was improving. Around the same time, an interview he gave to his close friend Ksenia Sobchak made headlines.
At the beginning of the year, Dzhabrailov again faced the issue of rent. He couldn't pay the rent, and on January 16th, he asked his landlady for a "vacation." The former senator reported that his financial situation was "not very good at the moment," and that income from a certain "new project" was expected in March or April.
In that same January letter, he wrote that his relatives had disowned him, that he had "kept nothing of his property," and that he had nowhere else to live. In short, he asked for accommodation, which the landlady did.
Last year, he had already complained about his fatal loneliness. He said, "I'm a very lonely person" and "tired of myself." He stated that he doesn't communicate with his eldest daughter, who lives in the United States, while his youngest daughter lives in Monaco and keeps in touch with him. He described his brother as someone who "scolds" him for his lifestyle.
Umar Dzhabrailov last contacted Elena Yeliseyeva in mid-February: he transferred another payment of 385,000 rubles and sent her a confirmation. In a voice message, the former senator said he had been in Mecca, had contracted the flu, but was "getting better." Overall, he was cheerful and full of plans for the spring.
After the incident, Dzhabrailov's brother visited the apartment with an investigator. He intends to collect his personal belongings. A significant amount of expensive furniture, brand-name household items, and electronics, which Umar Dzhabrailov had purchased for himself, remained in the apartment.
