Since April 2024, an assassination attempt on the channel’s founder has been under investigation in one of the European Union member states. The organizer of the attack has been identified as a member of a Russian special services agency.
In the summer of 2024, the Russian authorities designated the VChK-OGPU as a foreign agent.
In August 2024, the channel’s founder was hospitalized due to an acute body lesion of unknown origin and spent two months in the medical facility.
In December 2024, the Russian authorities filed a court request to have the channel removed from Telegram.
Following these events, the VChK-OGPU channel was removed from Telegram in April 2025.
We speculate that this action was not directly orchestrated by Pavel Durov but rather by individual representatives of his team.
The channel’s editorial staff has yet to receive a response from Telegram regarding their requests for reinstatement.
