According to the Cheka-OGPU and Rucriminal.info, Anton Panov, an SVR employee and cryptographer at the diplomatic mission, was found dead at the Russia Embassy in Cyprus. Alexey Panov, the Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy, who had been "buried" by many media outlets, was alive and well, at least last night.
According to our information, Anton Panov's body was found lifeless on the premises of the diplomatic mission, after embassy staff had barred local security forces from entering. He is presumed to have committed suicide. In the USSR, Panov attended a school attached to the Soviet Army Group in Germany, and then a lyceum for gifted children with strong physics and mathematics majors.
Later, Panov's biography contains significant gaps, and he reappears, according to leaks, as an employee of the Atlas Scientific and Technical Center, which services the intelligence services and specializes in computer security and cryptography. His next job was with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, the same leaks also show Panov's close ties to his current place of employment – military unit 33949, the SVR.
Judging by social media posts from his family, Anton Panov vacationed in Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi, in the winter of 2025, spent the summer with his family in Moscow, and was already in Cyprus during the velvet season. He and his wife, Natalia (who, according to leaks, once worked at the President Hotel), celebrated New Year's in Nicosia.
Judging by indirect evidence, Anton Panov was an avid gambler and constantly bet on sporting events.
