The Cheka-OGPU and Rucriminal.info have discovered that Sergei Molchanov (pictured), who blew up traffic police officers in Moscow, served in one of the directorates of the Russian General Staff. He told his girlfriend he was going on a "secret mission."
According to our project, Sergei Molchanov served under contract in unit 42396 (subordinate to the Military Topographic Directorate of the General Staff). Officially, he was listed as the head of the radio station. His fellow soldiers confirmed this information.
According to them, Sergei was upset in the week before his disappearance. Right there in the unit, he tried to borrow money from his fellow soldiers, explaining that he had gotten into some unpleasant situation he couldn't talk about. In total, he owed about 100,000 rubles.
As Molchanov's girlfriend, Oksana (who works in advertising), told us, they had been together for several years. Sergey had always been stoic and cheerful, but recently his behavior had changed dramatically. He was sad and even cried.
Oksana became suspicious when Sergey asked her for a loan of 30,000 rubles. She knew his coworkers had already been pressuring him for repayment (he'd told them he'd gotten into a difficult situation but couldn't talk about it), and she didn't refuse.
Literally the day before his departure, Molchanov's mood changed again and became cheerful. It was as if he'd found a way out of a difficult situation. Sergey told Oksana he needed to complete an urgent, secret mission, and when he returned, he'd tell her everything in more detail.
According to Oksana, she doesn't believe her boyfriend could have fallen for the phone scammers. Sergey himself had given her several "lectures" about such scams, explaining how they operate and how to avoid them.
The girl believes that Sergey was communicating with someone he knew well and trusted.
In any case, Molchanov arrived from St. Petersburg to Moscow and went to the traffic police. The injured officers reported that a young man approached their car and said he needed to deliver a package. 34-year-old Senior Police Lieutenant Denis Bratushchenko emerged from the car. The young man put his hand inside his shirt, and at that moment, an explosion occurred.
Bratushchenko and Molchanov died instantly.
